What is ADB Japan Scholarship?

It aims to give qualified residents of ADB'sdeveloping countries (DMCs) chances to seek graduate studies in financial matters, business and management, science, innovation, and other advancement-related fields at chosen university establishments in Asia and the Pacific.

About Scholarship 

The ADB–Japan Scholarship Program (ADB–JSP) enrolls about 300 students annually in academic institutions located in 9 countries within the Region. Upon completion of their study programs, scholars are expected to contribute to the economic and social development of their home countries.

Major Study Area 

• Science and Technology

Agriculture, Biological Science, Computer Science, Energy, Engineering, Environment, Forestry, Genetics, and Health

• Economics, Business and Management

Accounting, Business Administration/Management, Commerce, E-Business, Entrepreneurship, Economics, Finance, International Cooperation, and Social Sciences

• Development Studies

Asia Pacific Studies, Development Management, and Development Studies

• Law and Public Policy

International Business Law, International Environmental Law, Policy Studies, Political Science, Public Administration, and Public Policy

Scholarship Host Countries List -

Students can study their course in one of the following country

• Hong Kong, China

• India

• Japan

• New Zealand

• Pakistan

• Philippines

• Singapore

• Thailand

• USA

Eligible Requirement - 

1. Candidate be a national of an ADB borrowing member country - See bellow list for eligible
2. Do not hold dual citizenship of any developed country
3. Candidate need admission to an approved master’s course at a Designated Institution.
4. Hold a bachelor's degree or its equivalent with superior academic record
5. Required at least two (2) years of full-time professional working experience 
6. The candidate must have proficiency in oral and written English communication skills to be able to pursue studies
7. Age should be not be more than 35 years old at the time of application
8. Good health
9. Required agree to return and work in his/her home country for at least two (2) years after completion of studies under the Program in order to contribute to its development
10. Not close relative working in ABD

Scholarship Benefits

follwing benefits will be provided by Asian Development Bank for selected candidates.

Selection Process 

1. Applicant requests information and application forms from the chosen partner institution

2. Applicant completes required documents for application including the ADB-JSP information sheet

3. Applicant sends documents to the institution 

4. Institution evaluates and decides on admission and applicant

5. Institution sends shortlist of candidates to ADB 

6. ADB reviews submissions from institutions

7. ADB recommends awardees based on its selection criteria to the Japanese executive director for approval

8. ADB selects scholars and informs the institution

9. Institution informs all scholars
