Overview of the Netherlands scholarship
According to the Maastricht University Scholarship Fund,
"The Scholarship program consists of both the High Potential Scholarship (funded by the Maastricht University Scholarship Fund) and the Holland Scholarship, which is financed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science in conjunction with Dutch universities and universities of applied sciences. It is aimed at international students from outside the EU/EEA who wish to follow a full degree program in the Netherlands."
Eligible Requirments
1. The applicant holds nationality in a country outside the EU/EEA, Switzerland, or Surinam and meets the requirements for obtaining an entry visa and residence permit for the Netherlands.
2. The applicant does not hold a double nationality from an EU/EEA country.
3. The applicant has applied for admission to a participating full-time master's program at Maastricht University for the 2023-2024 academic year.
4. The applicant meets the specific admission requirements of the UM master program to which his/her has applied.
5. The applicant has never participated in a degree-seeking higher education program in the Netherlands. Students who have completed exchange programs in the Netherlands are welcome to apply.
6. The applicant is not older than 35 years of age on 1 September 2023.
7. The applicant has obtained excellent results during his/her prior education programs, as demonstrated by his/her latest grade transcript or certified by academic excellence. If several applicants are equally qualified, UM will give preference to applicants whose academic transcript or certified letter of academic excellence demonstrates that they are among the top 5% of the 2023-2024 scholarship program applicants.
Please note, this is a very competitive scholarship, only 2% of the applicants get awarded the scholarship.

How to write a reference letter for a Scholarship
1. Written in English and typed.
2. Dated and no more than one year old
3. Maximum 1 page in length.
4. Contain the contact details of the author including institutional or work email address and telephone number. Letters with only a personal email address will be rejected.
5. Signed by the author
6. Describe the relationship between the referee and the candidate. For example, outline the candidate’s performance on a project, in class, or as part of a team.
7. Quantify the high potential of the candidate by providing accurate descriptions of their achievements in the classroom, their community, or their place of work.
8. Indicate how the candidate’s high potential will be leveraged by their participation in their Maastricht University Master’s program.
